Pug Communities

If you have pugs that you love and want to connect with other pug-lovers, finding an online pug community can be a great outlet for sharing your love of pugs. I have no shame in identifying as a crazy pug lady, but I also recognize that most of my friends and family members aren’t pug crazy themselves. I certainly don’t hide my love of pugs from them, bt I don’t want to talk their ear off about pugs 24/7 when they aren’t personally that interested.

Finding online pug communities can be a great outlet for sharing pictures and stories of your pugs with people who will love to see the pictures and hear the stories. I’ve also been a bit surprised at how much can be learned about the pug breed by spending time in online communities with others who love the breed.

Pug communities online & locally

Online Pug Communities

/r/Pugs subreddit. Reddit is a free online forum site that you can join. They have subreddits which are basically individual forums based on a certain theme. Reddit has subreddits for most any topic you can imagine. Their /r/pugs forum is a subreddit where people share photos of their pugs, or sometimes stories! If you want a daily dose of cute pug pictures, it’s a great place to check out.

/r/Pug subreddit. Basically just a repeat of Pugs, but with different photos! If you join one subreddit, you might as well join both!

Pug Facebook Grops

Pug obsessed” is a very popular, very active pug facebook group. People share pictures and videos of their pugs (or others tha they found online, sometimes). People also share stories of their pugs or ask questions, etc.

Notorious pugs” is another really large and really active Facebook group for pug owners or pug lovers. Lots of pictures and videos as well as text posts.

Wheelie pugs” is a Facebook group owned by Kathleen Smiler, a vet who is passionate about pug myelopathy. This group is incredible for anyone who has a dog with rear-end weakness or mobility issues of any sort. Though I’d also recommend it to anyone with a pug, honestly. It can’t hurt to get educated about these conditions and how to care for pugs with them because something like 20% of pugs are impacted. Early intervention can make a big difference but you almost need to be educated before it’s super clear to ‘ordinary people’ that something is wrong. That’s why I’d recommend anyone/everyone with a pug join.

Pugs rock the world” This is a smaller pug Facebook group, but I think there are some benefits to smaller groups. Easier to keep up with!

PugVillage.com is a forum website for pug owners! I learned a lot about the pug breed from this website before we got our pugs. I’d also occasionally find myself back on PugVillage.com when looking for harder to find information that was specific to pugs.

Local Pug Communities

There are some unique benefits to joining local pug communities rather than online ones. In-person pug communities can be a way to socialize your pugs, and make some “real life” friends yourself. Getting to know other pug owners in your area may help you to learn about veterinarians or other resources in your area that are particularly ideal for pug owners.

MeetUp.com is a great site to check under their ‘pug’ category to see if there are pug-themed meet ups in your area.

Ask your vet or breeder. If you don’t see any pug events on MeetUp.com, I’d recommend asking your vet or breeder if they know of any pug groups in your area. Perhaps there is a social club that just isn’t on that particular website.

Start your own! If there isn’t a group in your area, you can start one! Advertise it on social media and MeetUp.com, spread the word at your local vet, dog park, or through local breeders.
